Abigail Mendez, LMHC
Abigail Mendez is a bilingual Latina therapist with deep expertise in the assessment and treatment of trauma. She specializes in helping clients process and recover from early trauma histories to lead more successful lives and relationships.
Abigail is passionate about eliminating mental health stigma, particularly among people of color, and feels honored to have accompanied so many clients on their therapy journey.
Many of Abigail’s clients come to therapy suffering from the deep emotional scars trauma can leave behind, including shame, guilt, or unworthiness.
These inner narratives pull clients’ attention inward, keeping them stuck in painful thought loops rather than experiencing their external world in real time. Abigail uses a tailored treatment approach, blending cognitive-behavioral and relational strategies, to help clients choose how they want to respond to emotional triggers. These strategies build agency and allow clients to fully engage with what’s in front of them – be it school, work, or a loved one.
Prior to joining the practice, Abigail was a counselor at Baruch College. She’s held multiple roles in education, including as a New York City public school teacher and as an Adjunct Professor.
Abigail is passionate about working with people from all walks of life and giving voice to the often voiceless.
